Barton, vets group honor Worcester
Retired Army Col. Robert Barton of Westbrook, now commander of Region 1 Military Order of World Wars, recently bestowed honorary membership in the organization to Morrill Worcester in a ceremony at the Scarborough Veterans Home.
Worcester, who lives in Columbia Falls and is president of Morrill Wreath Co., donated more than 10,000 wreaths to decorate the graves of veterans. The wreaths were placed on graves at Arlington National Cemetery and other cemeteries through the United States in Worcester’s annual program, Wreaths Across America.
Along with two large trailer trucks and his entourage, Worcester stopped at the Scarborough Veterans Home and greeted many of the veterans. where he received the honorary membership.
Trinity’s Christmas Pageant rescheduled
Brenda Orach, social ministry chairwoman at Trinity Lutheran Church, said the Christmas pageant, “Journeys for the Lord,” at the church has been rescheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, during the worship service.
The church is at 612 Main St. The pageant, which had been scheduled for Sunday, was postponed because of the snowstorm.
Orach said there would be a light sandwich buffet following the service and a Christmas carol sing-a-long. She said the community is invited to attend the service and experience the “journeys” of some very special people.
Church member Elsie Reese has written the story and designed costumes and the pageant will include participants of all ages. Trinity is also celebrating its 125th anniversary is looking forward to inviting the public to share in the joy of the “Reason for the Season.”

First Baptist cantata Sunday
The First Baptist Church, 733 Main St., Westbrook, is inviting everyone to its worship service and holiday cantata at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday.
The choir will perform the cantata entitled “A Carol to the King” written by Mosie Lister. Refreshments will be served during fellowship after the service.
The church is across Main Street from Dunkin’ Donuts.
Free Christmas dinner
The Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St., is hosting a free Christmas dinner 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Joy Knight, church moderator, said the meal provides comfort and companionship besides food. “There’s a big need out there,” said Knight, who hopes 250 people will be served.
The dinner includes turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, vegetables and desserts. Local businesses are contributing and Knight said seed money to sponsor the meal came from the former Methodist Church.
Reservations aren’t required but those planning on attending can call the church at 854-9157.
