Boys basketball
Coach: Scott Flagg (second season)
Last year’s record: 4-14-missed playoffs
Players to watch: Senior guard Cameron Seymour; Juniors Cody Humphrey, Kyle Orlando, Nick Audet and sophomores Evan Kenney and Taylor Valente.
Outlook: The Patriots are a young team, with only one senior, so their future is in front of them. The Patriots, who opened with a 71-40 loss at home to Freeport will be looking to improve on last season’s 4-14 record and building for the future.
Girls basketball
Coach: Chris Aube (first season)
Last season: 9-11-No. 9 seed in the playoffs, defeated No. 8 Mountain Valley in prelims before losing to Lake Region in the quarterfinals.
Players to watch: Senior Chelsea Durgin; Juniors Terri Lynn Sanborn, Rachel Clement; Sophomore Laura Getchell
Outlook: Much like their counterparts on the boys’ squad, the Patriots’ girls team is a young one. The Patriots made some noise in the playoffs last season, upsetting Mountain Valley in the first round before falling to eventual Western Class B champion Lake Region in the quarterfinals. With only one senior on the team, Gray-New Gloucester figures to continue to play their best basketball come tourney time.
Ice hockey
Coach Aaron Rand (first season)
Last year: 9-10-missed playoffs
Players to watch: Senior Cory Cormier; Juniors: Ben Piper, Sean Bilodeau and Gardner Lajoie
Outlook: The combined Gray-New Gloucester Patriotic Knights barely missed the playoffs in Eastern Class A last season after making it the previous season, and are hoping to get back to the postseason this year.
