Festival benefits ‘heat on’
Donations at the Festival of Trees, sponsored by the Bar Mills Community Church and Buxton Garden Club last week, benefited the town’s “Keep the Heat On,” assisting needy elderly to pay rising home heating costs.
The five-day event that concluded Friday featured a wide variety of entertainment including Patsy Leavitt and Friends, Don Roy Trio, Magic of the Steelgraves, the church’s chimes choir and a barbershop quartet along with Santa.
Organizations sponsoring trees besides the garden club and church included Buxton Police Department, Narragansett Number 1 Foundation and Buxton Toy Box, a program benefiting needy children.
Field hockey frosh excel academically
Bonny Eagle High School recently recognized the freshman field hockey team, which had the highest grade point average for this fall’s sports with 3.83.
The team included Pauline Adams, Nicole Avery, Julia Boucher, Sara Buzzell, Rebecca Coney, Payton Curtis, Sydney Dalphonse, Sage Darling, Nicole DeMidio, Erin Glennie, Alyssa Groeger, Dayna Lambert, Holly LeBel, Ashley Lewis, Morgan Roy, Mallary Smith, Emily Stiffler, Natasha Vayda, Stephanie Waddell and Chelsea Yates.
Jennifer Jacobe was coach.
Fernstrom, Certoma wed
Army Specialist Allison Fernstrom of Buxton and Army Specialist Vincent Certoma Jr. of Fontana, Calif., were married Aug. 26 at the home of the groom’s grandmother, Delcia Harrid, in Fontana, Calif.
A reception followed the ceremony at the residence.
The bride is the daughter of Scott and Jeanette Fernstrom, Buxton. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Emery, Buxton; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Polk, Rockland; and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Fernstrom of San Diego, Calif.
She is a 2004 graduate of Bonny Eagle High School.
The groom is the son of the late Vincent and Phyllis Certoma Sr. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Dominick Certoma, Calif., and the late Mr. Otto Harrid and Mrs. Delcia Harrid. He is a 2003 graduate of AB Miller High School in Fontana.
The bride and groom are both are stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., after honeymooning in San Diego, Calif. The groom is currently deployed to Iraq until December of 2008.
