Gorham 3

Scarborough 0

The Gorham boys’ ice hockey team skated away with a 3-0 win against Scarborough in the USM Round Robin on Saturday. David Gushee led the way for the Rams with a pair of goals.

Playing just one 29 minute period, the teams had to get to work right away. Early in the game, the Rams found themselves down a man when Jeremy Randall was called for a penalty. But Gorham killed off that penalty, something they were able to do every time they found themselves at a disadvantage.

At 13:40 of the period, Gushee put the Rams on the board with a precision shot. Gushee gathered the puck near center ice and skated into the Scarborough end. From there, he moved to the right of the Red Storm goal and ripped a shot that found its way between the goalkeeper and the post for a 1-0 Rams lead.

Shortly after killing off another penalty, the Rams doubled their lead. This time it was Brenden Ryan who scored when he wrested a shot into the net from the slot off a pass from Gushee at 19:01 of the period.

Just a few minutes later, with the Rams facing another short-handed situation, Ryan passed to Gushee, who fired a slap shot from the point that rippled the mesh for the third Gorham goal of the game.

As the minutes ticked away, the Red Storm tried in vain to get the puck past Gorham goalie Mike Bowring, but Bowring stopped all five shots he saw.
