Cemetery honoring vets
The South Buxton Cemetery Association will participate in “Wreaths Across America” this year on Saturday, Dec. 15.
Those wishing to buy a wreath costing $15 to honor a veteran should contact Richard “Sandy” Atkinson, president of the association, at 929-6495.
On the day of the ceremony next month, wreaths will be laid at 11 a.m. followed by a 12 p.m. dedication with the laying of seven wreaths, honoring each of the five military branches, prisoners of war and those missing in action. Wreaths for the dedication will be provided by the national program.
O’Donnell Air Force basic grad
Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Michael J. O’Donnell has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
O’Donnell is the son of Roberta O’Donnell of Eaton Drive, Buxton, and a 2006 graduate of Bonny Eagle High School.
During the six weeks of training, O’Donnell studied the Air Force mission, organization and military customs and courtesies. He performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical
training along with rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.
Wedge joins midshipman regiment
Midshipman Ann Wedge, Buxton, was recently sworn in as a member of the Maine Maritime Academy Regiment of Midshipman after successfully concluding six weeks of regimental preparatory training.
Wedge, a graduate of Bonny Eagle High School, is a member of the Maine Maritime Academy class of 2011. She is majoring in marine engineering technology.
The regimental training program instructs candidates about responsibilities as midshipmen and as potential seafaring officers. Wedge was one of 176 administered the oath by Capt. Jeff Loustaunau, commandant of midshipmen and port captain, during the college’s family weekend.
Thanksgiving pilgrims
Helen McAlpin’s first-grade class at Jack Memorial School in Buxton celebrated Thanksgiving early.
The Maine School Administrative District 6 food service served turkey dinners complete with pumpkin pie for lunch the week before Thanksgiving. The class made Pilgrim hats to wear at their dinner.
