Communities throughout southern Maine observed Veterans Day with parades and ceremonies Sunday.

At one ceremony in Westbrook’s Riverbank Park, Mayor Bruce Chuluda urged citizens to honor veterans and read a poem eulogizing veterans who have given their lives. Boy Scouts from Troop 83 in Westbrook and Cub Scouts from Pack 97 of Portland were members of a color guard.
