In a crowded field with eight candidates seeking three Gorham Town Council seats, Phillip Csoros and Burleigh Loveitt scored convincing victories Tuesday, while Matt Robinson squeaked past incumbent Norm Justice.
Each is a three-year term.
Csoros, making his second bid for the council successful, was the top vote-getter with 1,554. Loveitt, a veteran town councilor, tallied 1,306. Robinson, a former town councilor, narrowly upset Justice, also a veteran councilor and current chairman, 1,182- 1,177.
Another longtime councilor, incumbent Phil Dugas, was unseated.
“I’m gratified by the confidence Gorham voters showed in me,” Loveitt said. “I’m satisfied we waged a proper and decent campaign.”
Voters also favored two local referendums. They approved borrowing $3 million to repair town roads 2,138-1,135. A measure authorizing the town to spend $750,000 to construct two additional athletic fields at the middle school passed handily 1,848-1,426.
Incumbent Roger Marchand and political newcomer Kyle Currier were unopposed and elected to three-year seats on the Gorham School Committee. John Emerson Sr. also ran unopposed for Portland Water District trustee representing Gorham.
