John W. Emerson Sr. is running unopposed on the Nov. 6 ballot for a five-year seat representing Gorham on the Portland Water District board of trustees.
The incumbent, Charles Hamblen, isn’t seeking re-election.
Emerson, 56, is the deputy director of public services in Westbrook. Emerson sees serving on the water district board as an opportunity to give back.
He previously spent 25 years working for the water district, but left in 2005 seeking a new opportunity with Westbrook. Emerson is a certified water and wastewater operator.
“Sebago Lake is a tremendous resource,” said Emerson, who wants to help protect the area’s water supply, “Our water is unsurpassed.”
A former Gorham town councilor, Emerson, a lifelong Gorham resident, graduated from Gorham High School in 1969 and Bates College in Lewiston in 1973.
Emerson has three grown children. He and his wife, Laurie, have been married 11 years and live on Dingley Spring Road.
