When you mark your ballot Nov. 6, please look at the facts and the business Mayor Bruce Chuluda has brought to Westbrook. He tried to have department heads trim their budgets as much as possible to keep taxes down, but he is outnumbered where the council is concerned. They believe every department should have everything they want.
In a recent newspaper article, Jim Violette said that economic development had stalled, which I find to be untrue. Here is a list of new businesses that have come to Westbrook during Mayor Chuluda’s service.
Warren-Stevens Block, retail/office/food.
Goldar Commons, 26 housing units.
Forest Street School, 12 condos.
Bakery Photographic, photography.
Ethos Marketing, Marketing firm.
Hay property, six housing rentals.
Profenno’s, restaurant.
Fidelity Marketing, marketing.
Maine Medical Partners, medical practice.
Burrito’s, restaurant.
Fajita Grill, restaurant.
Maine Dovetail, cabinetmaking.
Idexx, expansion.
Oleson Saw Building, contractor-rental.
Riverfront Lofts, 43 residential units.
Ocean Community Credit Union, old post office building renovation under way.
This is probably not a complete list, but apparently Mr. Violette doesn’t think this is enough.
Also, the revaluation, according to the city council, is something the state says we had to do. It’s been 15 years instead of 10 since the last one. It is not something the mayor is responsible for.
I believe Mayor Chuluda has shown his ability to be an effective leader and deserves another term to continue his hard work for the taxpayers of Westbrook.
