Puiia teen pageant contestant
Christina Puiia, 18, the daughter of Patty and John Harkins of Westbrook, will seek to win the state’s Miss Teen title on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 24 and 25, at the Sheridan in South Portland.
The winner will represent Maine in the Miss Teen USA pageant next year. Puiia, a senior at Mountain Valley High School in Rumford, is “very excited,” her mother said.
Puiia spends weekends and summer vacations with her mom and stepdad along with a brother and sister in Westbrook.
If she wins the state’s Miss Teen contest, she would receive a $1,500 scholarship. Puiia wants to further her education in the medical profession.
Puiia has traveled to New Orleans as a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity to help restore and rebuild homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina. She hopes winning the Maine title would attract more awareness of the continuing need in New Orleans.
She has a lot of friends in Westbrook and welcomes them to attend the pageant in South Portland.
Lobster roll lunch
Westbrook Woman’s Club, GFWC/MFWC, will hold its annual lobster roll box lunch on Wednesday, Nov. 7.
The lunch, $10, includes chips and dessert. Club members deliver the orders. It raises money for the club’s Westbrook High School scholarship fund. Patricia Currier and Georgia Therio are co-chairing the lunch.
