The Scarborough Public Library’s Passports to the World program for Grades K-3 will take children on a virtual journey to Vietnam on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 4 p.m. The program will be presented by Elizabeth Forrest, Youth Services Assistant at the library.

Forrest lived in Vietnam for three years as a teacher-librarian at the United Nations International School in Hanoi. During her extensive travels throughout Southeast Asia, she collected an array of memorabilia including musical frogs, Bat Trang pottery, cooking utensils, Vietnamese currency and much more. A selection of her artifacts is now on display in the library.

During the program, children will hear an excerpt from a familiar story read in Vietnamese, try their hand at using chopsticks, learn more about several of the items in Forrest’s collection and create a Vietnamese craft. Registration is requested and can be done by contacting the Children’s Room at 883-4723 ext. 235.
