The Cape Elizabeth football team continues to steamroll over opponents in their quest for a state title.

On Friday, the Gray-New Gloucester Patriots became the latest victims of the Capers’ potent offensive attack, as Cape rolled to a 40-0 road win.

Cape (5-0) has surrendered just 14 points all season, none since Sept. 8 and is averaging an incredible 43.4 points per game on offense.

Cape started out the scoring with just under a minute gone in the first quarter. Quarterback Jim Bump hit Curtis Dulac with a 55-yard touchdown pass to put Cape on the board.

That would be all the points the Capers needed for the win, but Cape kept up the offensive attack throughout the game and rolled on to the 40-0 final score.

Next up for the Capers, they return home on Friday night to face the 2-3 Wells Warriors. Wells is coming into the game of a 48-6 win over Falmouth last Friday night.

Following the Wells game, Cape has three games remaining this season. They are at home against Greely on Oct. 12 and then, the Capers travel to Lake Region on Oct. 19. After that game comes what could be a clash for the Western Class B regular season title as Cape takes on powerhouse Mountain Valley at Hannaford Field on Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.

Scarborough (2-3) was unable to get their offense on track all game, and surrendered a pair of second half touchdowns to give the Bulldogs (1-4) the win.

The two teams battled to a scoreless tie in the first half. After the break, Portland finally got on the scoreboard with a one-yard touchdown run from Andrew Lieberman. Portland put the capper on the game in the fourth quarter when quarterback Ed Bogdanovich hit Lieberman for a 15-yard touchdown pass.

Scarborough plays Marshwood at home this Friday night at 7 p.m. Marshwood (3-2) comes into the game on the heels of a 37-6 loss at home to Deering last Friday night.
