Scarborough High School students may soon have a voice on the school board.

In a Sept. 5 letter to the board, Jeff Poulin, president of the Scarborough High School student council, proposed the creation of a school board youth delegation from the high school. The issue will be discussed by the Scarborough School Committee at its meeting Thursday night.

Poulin asked that two representatives elected by their peers participate in school board meetings at least once a month. In his letter, Poulin said the partnership would “bring a joint perspective on the issues facing the education of Scarborough students, and foster a better relationship between the youth and adults involved”.

In addition, the panel will review and discuss the 2007-2008 proposed Maine School Board Association resolutions that will be presented at a fall conference in Augusta. The resolutions include changes to school policies regarding health and wellness, advertising, student employment, written policies, vocational education, student rights and grade printouts.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Scarborough Municipal Building.
