Cheverus High School Holds Walk-A-Thon, The Stag Stampede
Students supporting students will be the theme of the day on September 19, 2007 as the entire Cheverus student body, faculty, staff, members of the business community and friends gather to participate in the first annual Stag Stampede. The Stag Stampede is a community walk-a-thon event held to benefit the Cheverus Scholarship Fund. The Fund defrays the cost of tuition to all Cheverus students and provides financial aid assistance which, in the 2007-08 school year, amounts to $1,283,600 to over 40% of its student population.
The event is sponsored by Outback Steakhouse and support is provided by Cityside Events. Students, friends, faculty and family will gather at the Boulos Stadium field on the Cheverus Campus at noon on Wednesday, September 19th to begin a four mile walk circling Back Bay. Upon the walk’s completion, participants and volunteers will be treated to a barbeque by Outback Steakhouse. Prizes will be awarded to fundraisers.
Members of the community are invited to participate in the event as a sponsor, donor, walker or volunteer. For more information or pledge forms contact: Margaret Rogosienski at Cheverus High School, rogosienski@cheverus.org or (207) 774-6238, ext. 47.
This will be a unique event in the Portland community where students will spearhead the effort to raise funds in support of their own education and that of their classmates who, without such assistance, would be unable to attend Cheverus High School. It is an opportunity for the greater Portland community to share in the Cheverus mission to educate young men and women to be “people for others.”
Cheverus High School is a private co-educational college preparatory secondary school in Portland, Maine, conducted by the Society of Jesus, also known as the Jesuits.
