GHS class of ’57 celebrates

The class of 1957 observed its 50th reunion Aug. 25 at Spring Meadows Golf & Country Club in Gray.

Master of ceremonies Gailen Lyons had a short agenda so people had more time to visit. Lyons called for a moment of silence for deceased classmates. They were James Adams, John Carver, John Chrissikos, Charles Emery, Mary Ann Fickett, Donna Hyman Spiers, Leo Kimball, James Severance and Shirlie Welch.

Richard and Judy Hawkes were greeters and Bobby Paige gave the toast to the class. Joanne Edwards arranged an attractive memorabilia table for everyone to enjoy.

GHS reunion plans

A meeting to plan a multi-class reunion of Gorham High School will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23, at the Maine Bean, corner of Route 302 and River Road, Windham.

Cathy (Fraser) Feeney said the reunion on Sept. 20, 2008, is planned for classes 1970-1974.

Centre of Movement yard sale

Donations for an upcoming yard sale sponsored by the Centre of Movement will be accepted at either of its locations at 19 State St., Gorham, or at 56-60 Ossipee Trail, Limington.

The yard sale will be 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23, at the Limington site, six tenths of a mile west of the Limington Rapids bridge. All proceeds will benefit Ossipee Trail Arts.

Lions Club cars show

Gorham and Deering Lions clubs are hosting Car Show 2007 on Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Portland International Jetport. Rain date is the following day.

The car show, formerly held under the Casco Bay Bridge, is being held this year during the Portland International Jetport Aeronautical Exposition, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 22 and 23.

Spectator admission is free.

More than 200 cars are expected in 24 classes. Three trophies will be awarded in each class besides one for best of show. Trophies will be presented at 1:45 p.m.

Car registration donation is $5. Cars are requested to be at the site by 9 a.m. by the main entrance from Congress Street onto International Parkway; take first left onto Jetport Boulevard, turn left after Embassy Suites and follow signs.

Breakfast and lunch will be available.

In a special feature this year for the aeronautical show, teams of 20 will compete, pulling a 727 on the runway for charity.

Potluck art night

Every Monday from 6-8 p.m. people are invited to come to the Art Guru, 104 Main St., to paint, draw or sculpt in the back classroom. “This is a great opportunity to get in a regular schedule of creating art, and sharing the creative spirit with like minds,” Jeremy Greene, owner of The Art Guru.

U.S. taxpayer debt rises to $9 trillion

The Bureau of Public debt reported on Sept. 5 that the U. S. public debt was $9,005,964,261,217.59. On Sept. 4, the debt was $8,995,145,905,720.62
