The Westbrook Democratic Caucus will be held Sunday, with Lynda Adams expected to seek the nomination for city clerk and Jim Violette expected to seek the nomination for mayor.
Adams will be seeking the Democratic nomination for city clerk just three weeks after seeking the nomination at the Republican caucus. Adams lost her bid to Deborah Frank in a 34-9 vote.
Brendan Rielly, current city council president and Democrat, said he expects all 25 seats open for contests to have nominees. The Republican caucus on Aug. 19 only brought forward five nominees, with just one for council and one for mayor. The available seats also include school board seats and ward clerks and wardens.
Greg Smith, school committee vice chair, is expected to seek the Ward 2 nomination for his seat again, but committee members Jay Casavant, at large, and Tim Crellin, Ward 1, are not planning on running. The Ward 5 seat is also up for election. It is not known if committee member Don Perkins will run again.
It is not known if Dotty Aube will seek her seat on city council, but councilors Rielly, Suzanne Joyce and Michael Foley have said they will run again. Councilor Drew Gattine has expressed some interest in running again.
The caucus begins at 6 p.m. in the Wescott Junior High School gym.
