BEHS welcomes freshmen
Bonny Eagle High School welcomed almost 350 new students on the first day of school Aug. 29, reserved for incoming freshman.
The freshmen participate in activities, go through schedules, have a picnic lunch, visit classrooms and meet their teachers. The students were welcomed to the high school by Principal Robert Strong.
The class of 2011 worked on team building activities and reviewed the rules of the high school. The new students visited a fair to learn about the clubs and activities available to students and could sign up for them.
Some of high school seniors acted as mentors, helping out the new students and answering questions. The student mentors will be working with the freshman focus class teachers during first semester, and will then work with freshman home base teachers during the second semester.
On freshman orientation day, the mentors gave tours of the school to small freshman groups, ate lunch with the freshman, and met with them in their freshman focus classes and home bases.
Bethany Harrington, the adviser for the senior mentors, said, “I had many of our faculty approach me saying what a great job the mentors did and what a great help they were (to the incoming freshman).”
This year’s senior mentors are: Anastasia Skibicki, Audrey Frenette, Brett Dostie, Bridget Ferry, Danielle Napolitano, Ellen Wormwood, Emily Seekins, Jamie Barilone, Katlyn Gardiner, Kayle Hamilton, Kevin Stack, Kristen MacLean, Murphy Doughty, Natasha Young, Stephen Hilton, Victoria Frankl and Victoria Negus.
Littlefield-Hudson family reunite
The fifth annual reunion of the Littlefield and Hudson families was held Aug. 19 at the home of Pat Cote and Ray Littlefield III on Cornfield Road.
The family enjoyed a potluck barbecue with salad and hot dogs.

Lewis honored at fair
Wimot “Bill” Lewis, 84, of Buxton, received special recognition Aug. 25 at the Acton Fair for his lifelong dedication to agriculture..
Rep. Jim Campbell, R-Newfield, presented the Agricultural Award to Lewis. Lewis first exhibited cattle at the fair 60 years ago.
Lewis, now a widower, married Ethel Winchell in 1947. The couple led a 4-H group in Buxton.
Lewis trucked cattle to safety during the forest fires of 1947. A former dairy farmer, he remains active at his farm on Long Plains Road.
Lewis served Buxton for 40 years in several capacities including selectman.
Garden club upcoming events
The Buxton Garden Club has two activities planned this month.
The group will work at the Woodland Walk garden at Buxton town hall 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 8. Members are asked to take garden tools for raking, weeding, edging and planting.
Anne Williams, Barbara Bradbury, Vanessa Howard and Arlene Lowe will be hostesses for the September meeting and harvest dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Groveville fire barn. Members are asked to bring a dish to share – casserole, salad, soup, bread and dessert. Club booklets will be distributed at the meeting.
Scholarship flea market
A flea market slated 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 in the Bonny Eagle Middle School parking lot will benefit a Bonny Eagle High School scholarship fund.
The middle school is at the intersection of routes 22 and 35.
Vendor items will include books, antiques, crafts, Red Sox memorabilia, swords, knives, furniture and handmade greeting cards. Table spaces are available for $10. To reserve space or for more information, call Karen at 642-3508.
BEHS ‘Project Graduation’ sale
The grand finale of three perennial sales to benefit Project Graduation 2008 will be held 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 15 and 16, in the parking lot at Bonny Eagle Middle School.
All plants are priced $1 to $5. The benefit also includes raffles for: blue hydrangea; red rose bush; large Autumn Joy sedum; five bags of shellfish compost and a $5 gift card to Long Horn Horse & Pet Supply; Purple Martin house; two Adirondack chairs and bird feeders, seed and nectar retail value of $89).
