While there are still a few weeks left in the summer of 2007, most of the local sports world is looking forward to a busy fall sports season. As local high school teams begin their fall practices this week, the Current is taking a look back at a summer to remember. Pictured above, the biggest annual sporting event in Maine took place on Aug. 4 as thousands of runners descended on Cape Elizabeth for the 10th Beach to Beacon road race. The men’s race was won by Kenya’s Duncan Kibet (left) in 27:51.7. Romania’s Luminita Talpos (right) won the women’s race in 32.20.3. For more from this summer, see page 13.
