With the Republican caucus coming up fast, and the Democratic caucus unscheduled but sure follow, Westbrook’s elected officials are weighing the decision to seek re-election.
Ward 3 Councilor Ed Symbol has decided not to run for any elected seat this year, opening yet another position on the roster of Ward 3 vacancies (the Board of Assessment Review and the planning board have Ward 3 vacancies). City Clerk Barbara Hawkes has also announced she will retire this year.
Mayor Bruce Chuluda and councilors Suzanne Joyce and Michael Foley all said they plan to run again.
Council President Brendan Rielly and Councilor John O’Hara both said their children are telling them they should run, but they haven’t made any decisions. Councilor Drew Gattine is also undecided.
The GOP’s caucus will be held at the Wescott Junior High gymnasium at 7 p.m. on Sunday. Voter registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. Candidates will be selected for the positions of mayor, city council, school committee, city clerk and ward clerk.
