A 19-year-old Scarborough man died this week after an accident Tuesday in Buxton.
Eric Frederick was transported to the hospital with severe head injuries after a single-car crash on Simpson Road. He was in critical condition Wednesday at Maine Medical Center and died later in the week.
The driver Jesse Gay, 23, of Old Orchard Beach, was also taken to Maine Medical Center with lacerations on an arm and his face, according to the police report. The hospital had no information Wednesday about Gay.
Buxton police said Gay lost control of a car that was traveling southeast on Simpson Road about 6 p.m. Tuesday. According to a police report, the car struck several trees, crossed the road and landed in a ditch.
Police Chief Jody Thomas said speeding and alcohol are being investigated as possible factors in the crash.
