A Sanford man suspected in three armed robberies over the weekend was arrested on a warrant by Old Orchard Beach police Sunday afternoon.
Michael Pomerleau, 27, of 8 Dale St., was stopped by police at 12:45 p.m. on Ocean Park Road in Old Orchard Beach after a complaint of erratic driving.
Further investigation by the Old Orchard Beach Police Department revealed that Pomerleau was a suspect in armed robberies in Yarmouth Saturday night and in Topsham and Falmouth Sunday morning.
Pomerleau is accused of holding up the store clerk of the Exxon gas station on Route 1 in Yarmouth with “a handgun” around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and taking off with “between $200 and $400 in cash,” Lt. Dean Perry of the Yarmouth Police Department said.
He said the store clerk saw a man leave the store, but did not see him drive away. There were no other witnesses, he said.
Det. Mark LaFountain of the Topsham Police Department said Pomerleau is suspected in the armed robbery of the Gibbs gas station on Main Street in Topsham around 9:20 a.m. on Sunday.
LaFountain said the suspect held up the store clerk with “a firearm” and took off with an “unknown” amount of money. Witnesses did not see suspect’s vehicle, he said, but added that Pomerleau was later stopped in a white minivan.
According to Det. Thomas Brady of the Falmouth Police Department, Pomerleau is also suspected in the armed robbery of the Exxon gas station on Route 1 in Falmouth, which occurred at 10:25 a.m. Sunday.
Brady said Pomerleau allegedly held up the store clerk with “a gun” and absconded with an undisclosed amount of money in a white Pontiac Montana minivan.
Charges stemming from the incidents include: four counts of theft by receiving stolen property in the form of cash, a check, license plates and a firearm; four counts of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs (which included the prescription drugs Adderall, Buspirone and Xanax); and two counts of the sale and use of drug paraphernalia.
As of the Weekly Observer’s Monday deadline, Pomerleau was being held at York County Jail in Alfred awaiting arraignment, which was scheduled for Monday afternoon.
