A local motor sports shop has put a smile on a Scarborough woman’s face after they did a rush job to fix a personal watercraft ahead of her grandson coming back stateside from Germany before he deploys to Iraq later this year.

Gail Cox, grandmother of Army Pvt. Anthony Martin, of Portland, was impressed by the service at West-Port Motorsports, on Main Street in Westbrook, after she brought her personal watercraft to the shop with a broken steering system. The shop was busy, but said they would get the job done before her grandson came home on June 24.

Martin is stationed in Baumholder, Germany, and will be deploying to Iraq in November. Cox wanted to maker sure he could go out on her pond during his short leave to celebrate Independence Day.

“It pays to buy local,” Cox said.
