Westbrook Police Officer Steve Pulsoni was honored Friday at Colby College in Waterville as the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by the Maine National Alliance for the Mentally Ill Crisis Intervention Team. Pulsoni was chosen from his peers and supervisors for the outstanding job he does in dealing with people in mental crisis. Both Sgt. Shawn McDermott and Capt. Tom Roth, as well as Pulsoni’s son, Tony, were on hand when the award was made by Carol Carothers, right, executive director of the Maine National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. Westbrook’s crisis intervention team consists of eight officers who receive an initial 40 hours of training and yearly refresher training in how to effectively deal with persons in mental-health crisis.
