Daniel T. Collomy is asking voters in Tuesday’s election for another three-year term as selectman.

Collomy, 75, has served seven years on the board and is currently its chairman. Not one to jump to conclusions, Collomy said he likes to look at both sides of issues and he sees things as going well in Buxton.

He favors the new, $1.8 million public works garage facing voters in Tuesday’s referendum. Collomy served on the building committee for the garage and said the town needs to replace the existing garage, which is outdated.

Collomy wants public works department employees to have a good environment to work in, and he feels a new garage has been on the back burner too long. “My main thing is to see the public works garage get off the ground,” Collomy said at candidates’ night last week.

A self-employed builder, Collomy said his hours are flexible and he’d continue to be available for townspeople. He’s at town hall nearly every day. “I’m available,” he said.

He and his wife, Olive, live on Berry Road. They have three adult children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

An Army veteran of Korea, Collomy was instrumental in the drive for the Korean War memorial erected last fall in Groveville. He has been a resident for 67 years, living in Buxton since 1940 when he was 8 years old.

He graduated Gorham State Teachers College, which has evolved into the University of Southern Maine. He has a college degree in industrial arts and Buxton has benefited from his expertise. He has donated his time and labor to the town for several building projects.

Besides serving as selectman, Collomy has been elected to the planning board, town’s charter commission and personnel review board.

Collomy said the biggest challenge is trying to find a balance between the needs and wants of the people. “I’ve always had the desire to help the town be conservative while making sure services to not suffer,” he said.

He wants the opportunity to continue serving the town. “I’m at your service. “If you want me, I’ll be here,” Collomy said.
