The Cape Elizabeth boys tennis team scored a 3-2 win over No. 2 Lincoln Academy (13-2) on Monday in a West B semifinal match.
The third-seeded Capers grabbed both doubles points against Lincoln and they picked up another point at No. 3 singles where Woody Tabery downed Cameron Blake in a lengthy three setter 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Chris Flathers and Michael Takach won their No. 1 doubles match 6-4, 6-4 and JD Moyer and Matt Braun combined for a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles.
Will Hall, Cape’s No. 1 singles player, lost a 7-5, 6-1 decision to Mike Von Vogt and Chris Steinroeder went three sets before falling to Matt Von Vogt 6-7 (8-6), 6-1, 6-2.
The Cape boys reached the semifinal with a 4-1 quarterfinal victory over No. 6 Greely on Thursday, May 31.
Cape was scheduled to face top-seeded Falmouth on Wednesday, June 6, at Bates College in Lewiston to decide the West B champion. (Results of that match were unavailable at press time.) Falmouth handed Cape its only two losses this season, both by 5-0 scores.
The Class B state championship will take place Saturday morning in Lewiston.
Cape girls still unbeaten
The Cape Elizabeth girls tennis team improved to 14-0 with a 5-0 win against Fryeburg (8-7) last Saturday in a West B semifinal match.
Cape’s No. 1 singles player, Amanda Slack, defeated Pahrada Sapprasert 6-2, 6-1. Melissa Slack downed Jen Smith 6-2, 6-0 to earn the point at No. 2 singles. And Fiona Donegan topped Lynn Cherry in a close match at No. 3 singles, 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-4).
Cape also had fine efforts from their doubles teams. Clare Stack and Heather Furman picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles. And Katie Takach and Danielle Steinman combined for a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
The Cape girls were scheduled to take on York on Wednesday, June 6, at Bates College in Lewiston for the Western Maine Class B regional championship. The winner of that match will play for the state title on Saturday in Lewsiton.
