The Cape Elizabeth boy and girls tennis teams begin West B regional tournament play this afternoon with quarterfinal matches. Both Cape teams are strong and both have a good chance of advancing deep into the tourney.

The Cape girls are 12-0 and seeded No. 1. They’ll play either No. 8 Oak Hill (6-6) or No. 9 Yarmouth (5-7) in a match that’s scheduled for Thursday, May 31. The winner moves on to play in a Saturday semifinal with the regional championship scheduled for Wednesday, June 6.

In 2006, the Cape girls were seeded No. 4 and they were knocked out of the tourney by top-seeded and eventual state champion Falmouth.

Cape finished the regular season with a 5-0 win over fifth-seeded Fryeburg on Wednesday, May 23.

The Cape boys are the No. 3 seed in the West B tourney with a 10-2 record and they’ll host No. 6 Greely (7-5) on Thursday, May 31. The winner advances to Saturday’s semifinal round. Cape defeated Greely back on May 9 by a 4-1 margin.

In 2006, Cape was the No. 2 seed and they advanced to the regional final where they fell to the eventual state champions from Falmouth.
