Coreen Wiese, the subject of a high-profile, six-month search, was buried Saturday in a service in South Buxton Cemetery.

The 15-year-old girl, daughter of Wesley and Cindy Wiese of Henry Hill Road, Buxton, had been missing since Nov. 8. Her body was found floating in the Saco River off Warren Road on May 11.

A group of Bonny Eagle High School students gathered at the service with the girl’s family, friends and Buxton police, including the lead investigator Mike Grovo and Chief Jody Thomas.

The Rev. John Libby, pastor at the Hollis Center Baptist Church, spoke at the graveside ceremony.

“Life is a gift from God. She was a gift to her family and friends,” Libby said. “Life is a gift but short. Coreen’s life was too short.”

Many of those gathered placed a single flower on the casket.

The FBI and Maine Warden Service joined Buxton police the search for Wiese. She was a sophomore at Bonny Eagle High School where she was an athlete and a high honor student.

Her body was identified by the state medical examiner’s office last week, and Buxton police said the investigation was closing.

Gail Marcinkiewicz, a spokeswoman for the FBI in Boston, said this week, “I don’t believe the FBI would have any more involvement.”
