Voters in School Administrative District 6 approved a new, $26.7 million elementary school for Buxton at a special election Tuesday.
Buxton voters also approved an additional $1.3 million for a gym and fitness room at the school, but the measure was rejected in Standish and Limington.
Results in Buxton showed 499 votes in favor of borrowing $26.7 million for the school and 170 against. The vote for the extra $1.3 million was 433 in favor and 231 opposed. Buxton Town Clerk John Myers put voter turnout at 11.2 percent.
In Standish, voters approved the school spending, 226-116. By a single vote, they rejected borrowing the $1.3 million, 171 in favor and 172 against. In Limington, the big spending question passed, 85-60, but the additional borrowing question was defeated, 65-80.
Results for Frye Island and Hollis, the other member towns in the district, were unavailable late Tuesday night.
