The Cape Elizabeth girls tennis team remained undefeated with a 4-1 win over North Yarmouth Academy on Monday. The Capers improve to 11-0 with just one match left before the regional tournament. Cape is the top team in the Western Maine Class B Heal Points race.

Amanda Slack won her No. 1 singles match (6-3, 7-5) and Melissa Slack won her No. 2 singles match (6-3, 6-4). In addition, Cape’s two doubles teams both won their matches with the Stack/Furman duo and the Steinman/Takach pairing each winning in straight sets.

The Cape Elizabeth boys tennis team improved to 9-2 on the year with a 4-1 victory over North Yarmouth Academy on Monday. Both teams entered the match with identical 8-2 marks. The Capers swept the singles matches to secure the win.

Will Hall won at No. 1 singles, Chris Steinroeder won at No. 2 singles and Woody Tabery won at No. 3 singles. The Capers also picked up a straight set win in doubles when the No. 2 pairing of Matt Braun and JD Moyer earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory.

Storm breezes to victory

The Scarborough boys tennis team eased its way past South Portland for a 5-0 victory on Monday. The Red Storm improved to 10-1 on the season while the Riots drop to 2-9.

Scarborough took all three singles matches in straight sets: Adam Saltz defeated Nick Lagios at No. 1, Nick Tolman downed Baxter Key at No. 2, and Tim Przbylowicz topped Tanner Burgdorf at No. 3.

The Red Storm also swept the doubles competition with Ethan McElwain and Nate Gove downing Corey Doucette and Taavet Kiidli at No. 1 and the Red Storm team of Micah Abrams and Cowie stopping Aiden Boyce and Mike Carter at No. 2.

Once beaten McAuley scored a 4-1 win over South Portland’s girls tennis team on Monday. The Riots are now 4-6 on the season including wins last week over Thornton and Marshwood.

South Portland’s No. 2 doubles team of Patricia Lusty and Meg Lundgren picked up the only Red Riot point on Monday with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.

Schoolboy and schoolgirl tourney pairings

The pairings have been released for this weekend’s Maine schoolboy and schoolgirl singles tournament. Play begins on Friday at Bates College in Lewiston with the Round of 40 matches followed by Round of 32 play. On Saturday, the Round of 16 and the quarterfinals are scheduled and the semifinals and finals are set for Monday, May 28.

Local qualifiers have drawn these match-ups:

Cape Elizabeth’s Amanda Slack is seeded No. 5 and she’ll play the winner of the Julia Bergeron (Lewiston) vs. Whitney Thomas (Falmouth) match in the Round of 32.

Melissa Slack of Cape Elizabeth will take on Sarah Porter of Presque Isle in the Round of 32.

Nicholas Tolman of Scarborough faces Patrick Savage of Caribou in the Round of 40 with the winner taking on top-seeded Mike Hill of Mt. Ararat.

Cape Elizabeth’s Will Hall is seeded No. 8 and he’ll face the winner of the Dillon Clark (Old Town) vs. Evan Pease (Brunswick) match in the Round of 32.

Nick Lagios of South Portland will battle James Bland of Marshwood in a Round of 40 match with the winner taking on No. 5 Mike Von Vogt of Lincoln Academy.

And Chris Steinroeder of Cape Elizabeth will play Josh Groleau of Hampden Academy in a Round of 32 match-up.
