Windham American Legion Post 148 recently announced a fund-raising drive for American flags.
The goal is to raise $10,500 over the next three years to be able to purchase and maintain flags along major Windham roads. Pending approval from the Windham Town Council and Central Maine Power, the flags will be flown from utility poles along Route 202 from the rotary to the Windham High School, along Route 302 from River Road to Whites Bridge Road, and along Route 115 on either side of Route 302.
Annually, the American Legion will set-up and maintain the flags from mid-May before Memorial Day to the week after Labor Day to show community pride and patriotism.
The cost of each flag set (flag, pole and mounting hardware) is $45 and the goal is to purchase 230 flag sets. Business and individuals can sponsor a flag or multiple flags. Even if you are unable to donate for a complete flag set, any amount will help the Legion reach the goal. A local donor has already agreed to help start our drive with $500 to match the first $500 raised through donations.
Checks or money orders can be made out to “American Legion Flags” and sent to American Legion, PO Box 1776, Windham, Maine 04062.
