Red Storm just keep winning

The Scarborough softball team improved to 10-0 on the season with Monday’s 4-0 victory at Windham. Red Storm pitcher Kelsey Griffin limited the Eagles to just four hits as Scarborough notched its seventh shutout of the season.

Griffin and fellow pitcher Caitlin LeBorgne have held opponents to just four runs in 10 games. And everyone knows when a team can’t score, they aren’t going to win.

Griffin also had a nice day at the plate with two hits. Catie Funk added a pair of doubles and Sarah Bonenfant chipped in with a couple hits as well to pace the Storm’s 12-hit attack.

The Red Storm sit atop the most recent West A Heal Point standings. They were scheduled to host Westbrook on Wednesday, May 16, before the all-important match-up at unbeaten Deering on Friday, May 18.

Riots’ win streak continues

South Portland made it seven straight wins after last week’s 3-0 victory at Westbrook on Wednesday, May 9.

The Riots were limited to just three hits, but they took advantage of a pair of Westbrook errors to score all the runs they’d need.

Christina Aceto had two hits and scored twice and pitcher Julie DiMatteo was very tough on the mound allowing just one hit and striking out eight.

The Riots were scheduled to host Sanford on Wednesday, May 16, and then travel to Kennebunk one day later.

Cape falls for just the second time

A hot Gray-New Gloucester softball team stayed hot on Monday as they knocked off Cape Elizabeth by a 2-0 score. Since starting the season 0-3, the Patriots have now won six of their last eight games.

For the Capers, it was only their second loss of the year as the defending West B champs fall to 8-2 on the season.

Cape pitchers Jackie Moran and Tricia Thibodeau combined on a four-hitter, but the Cape bats were only able to muster four hits of their own as Gray-New Gloucester freshman Laura Getchell pitched well.

Trailing 2-0, Cape had a rally going in their last at-bat. Emily Richardson singled sharply to left-center and Moran followed that with an infield single that she legged out just ahead of a Patriot throw. Lauren Donovan filled the bases with a hit that just went over the head of Gray’s shortstop. The comeback ended when Getchell got Lisa Wolanski too pop out and Brennan Balfour to ground out to end the game.
