Science fair winners

The Bonny Eagle Middle School’s honor flag recently recognized the school’s winners in the State Science Fair.

Sara Clark took top prize for Best Exhibit; Riley Heroux, Eureka award; and Morgan Smith, Best Engineering and Safety Award. These young scientists won at the middle school science fair to qualify for the state fair. They are all seventh-grade students.

Birthday bash for Leo

Leo Groder was honored on his 78th birthday May 6 with a party given by his wife, Joann Groder.

Family attending included Cindy and Keith Gorham with Sara, Brian, Kendra and Keith Jr.; Ed and Chris Brown; Debbie and Don Thumbs; Cathy and Russ Brackett; Billy Brackett and son, Billy Ray Brackett; Mike and Cecile Rogehellia; Jennifer and Chris Webber with Brianna and Kaitlyn; Reggie and Marilyn Groder; and Liza Burgess and her friend, Arnold, and her daughters Destira and Nevaeh. Joann Gorham wasn’t at the party but went to the home afterward.

Friends at the celebration included Ken Delano, Ralph Temm, Carol and Tony Moore, Stacia Allen and her daughter, Linda, and Mike Summersett with Mike and Joey; Elise Holt; and Ellen Emery with son Dan Emery. He received many gifts including a trip to Foxwoods from his wife, Joann.

Alpaca open house

Long Plains Alpacas will host an open house and educational day 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 27, at 301 Long Plains Road.

There will a shearing demonstration at 11:30 a.m. and a veterinarian, Dr. Nicole Mailhot, will lecture on alpaca husbandry at 1:30 p.m. Artists will demonstrate spinning and weaving. The children of Long Plains Alpacas will have their own fiber area, showing kids how to dye fiber with kool-aid.
