As members of the City of Westbrook’s Arts and Cultural Committee, we are writing in support of the proposed auditorium for the new Junior High School. We believe it follows the mayor’s goal to make Westbrook “economically vibrant and affordable.”
The proposed auditorium is a great deal, not only for the schools, but also for the community as a whole. It has the potential to draw local and national activities, including theatrical performances, music and corporate meetings.
It will also be more cost-efficient to build it now, because wrapping it into the school project means getting the facility at a greatly reduced cost. The green design of the new building ensures that the auditorium will be inexpensive to heat and cool, so renting the facility in summer can bring in revenue with little additional expense.
The auditorium will meet Westbrook’s needs for many years to come, and can be managed as a great asset to draw people together. Events at the auditorium can attract people to Westbrook, who will also patronize local restaurants, shops, and lodging.
We ask that the citizens of Westbrook consider the positive creative, cultural and economic impact it will have on the city. It is our goal to make Westbrook a place where the arts thrive. We believe that the auditorium, if approved, will make all Westbrook residents proud of the resources in their community, and remind them of their rich heritage. Please vote yes.
