The National Association of Letter Carriers will collect nonperishable food for the needy from postal service customers statewide on Saturday.
Residents can simply place food donations near their mail box. All donated food will be used to replenish local food pantries throughout the state. Donors are asked not to leave out anything in glass containers or anything that is perishable.
The National Association of Letter Carriers 15th annual food drive to Stamp Out Hunger is the largest, single, one-day food drive in America. Last year 70.5 million pounds of food was collected across the country. In Maine, 255,410 pounds of food was collected.
The annual food drive is sponsored in partnership with the U.S. Postal service, the United Way, the AFL-CIO, Campbell’s Soup and America’s Second Harvest to End Hunger.
