There will be an outdoor barbecue if weather permits. It will be indoors in case of rain. The boat races will go on rain or shine.

There is a meeting scheduled on May 2 between the American Legion Standish Memorial Post 128 and the Kiwanis Club. This is a 6:30 p.m. supper meeting prepared by Jean Staples. The American Legion Post will present a program, including a proposal to the Kiwanis Club following the supper.

Steep Falls Library

There will be a Bean Supper on Saturday, May 5 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Steep Falls Library. This supper is supported on by Friends of Steep Falls Library and is a fundraiser for the library. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children. For more information call 675-3132.

The preschool story hour continues at the library on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. This is an interactive story hour for toddlers and preschoolers and is free. Cat Macri is the Volunteer Coordinator for the Steep Falls Library. She has two small children of her own and wants the preschool activities to continue and in this way she is able to support the library while she remains involved with the programming for her own children. One of the points that Cat stressed is that newcomers to Standish often do not know that Steep Falls is part of Standish rather than an independent town. It is the Village of Steep Falls within the town of Standish, but newcomers often do not make that connection.

American Legion Standish Memorial Post 128

This past fall the American Legion Post 128 was recognized as an active post. They meet at the Kiwanis Club Building on the second and fourth Thursday of the month and have approximately 75 members. Not all of them are active, as this is a new post, but they are recognized members and are encouraged to come to the meetings to register and become active members. The post wants to increase their active membership. All vets are welcome to attend.

The plan is to have a community based program working on local projects for servicemen and women with veterans helping one another and their families. They would like to do suppers and beano as fundraisers to help to raise money so that they can assist families as needs arise. All veterans are welcome at meetings.
