The Lake Region softball team lost for the first time this season when they fell at Cape Elizabeth, 11-2, on Tuesday. The Capers racked up six runs in the first inning and three more in the second and put the game out of reach early.

The Lakers managed just two runs on only three hits. That offensive display was a far cry from what the Lakers produced one day earlier at Wells.

The visiting Lakers waited out a half-hour rain delay and then exploded for 14 runs in a 14-11 victory over the Warriors. A 12-run sixth inning highlighted the day’s fireworks at the plate. Meghan Michaud had a two-run triple and Andie Mitchell had a two-run double during that inning, just part of a 20-hit attack.

Kelsey Powers had four hits, including a double, two RBIs and a run for the Lakers. Michaud, Andi Mitchell and Kim Rivet all had three hits each and Meghan Craffey, Amy Traggert and Kayla Nowell all chipped in with two hits apiece.

The Lakers stand at 3-1 and were scheduled to host Sacopee Valley on Wednesday, May 2.

The Bonny Eagle softball team took advantage of seven wild pitches and eight walks to fly past Marshwood, 7-1, on Tuesday. The Scots loaded the bases in the sixth and scored on three consecutive wild pitches.

Messina Provencher, Krista Sulsbury and Alyssa Dunn each had a pair of hits for the Scots who improve to 4-1 with the win.

Maddie Kluna allowed one run and just three hits to improve to 1-1.

The Scots were scheduled to host Windham on Wednesday, May 2.

Windham gets first win

The Windham softball team headed for that contest with Bonny Eagle riding the momentum of their first win, a 6-3 final over Sanford on Tuesday afternoon. Pitcher Ally Noble struck out six and allowed four hits.

The Eagles broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the fifth and made it a 4-2 game with another in the sixth. The Eagles tacked on two more in the seventh and held the Redskins at bay to pick up the win.

Noble, Gould and Evans all had two hits each to pace the Eagles’ nine hit attack.
