The first year Windham High varsity girls lacrosse team had a better than average effort in their season opener at Sanford on Thursday, April 26. The Eagles fell by a 7-5 score, but they were within striking distance the entire game.

Windham goal scorers included Kelsey Cummings and Rachel Findlen with two each and Sam Skvornak with one.

“I was very pleased after our first game,” said Windham coach Deb Lebel. “The girls worked hard and their passing looks much improved over last season. They’ve come together as a team and found that they will have more success with good passing rather than trying to individually go to goal.”

Lebel knows the team will struggle as it establishes itself, but she also knows what the players need to do to improve.

“We will continue to work on our transition from defense to offense and vice versa,” said Lebel. “We also hope to have fewer dropped balls as the season progresses. This has been a week to focus on refining skills and then the fun begins with three games a week for the next three weeks.”
