Buxton is holding a special town meeting on Wednesday, May 9, to get the approval of residents to replace a fire truck damaged in a recent accident.
If approved, the town would spend $65,000 on a used 1985 E-One Stratus ladder truck, using $40,000 from an undesignated surplus fund and $25,000 from an insurance reimbursement.
The town’s fire truck was damaged on March 29 when it collided with an ambulance at the intersection of Portland Road and Route 202. The ambulance then collided with two pickup trucks.
The fire truck was responding to a report of a fire on Long Plains Road. The accident was caused by brake failure on the fire truck, according to State Police.
The special meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. May 9 at town hall, which is located at 185 Portland Road.
