Windham 9 Biddeford 6
The Windham High baseball team is odff to a fast 2-0 start with back-to-back wins over South Portland and Biddeford. The Eagles toppled the Red Riots 3-0 thanks to excellent pitching and they used their bats for a 9-6 win over the Tigers on Tuesday.
At Biddeford, it was a six-run fifth inning that won the game for the Eagles. Biddeford scored in four of the seven innings, but could not overcome that fifth inning outburst from Windham.
It was the Dan Williams show against South Portland last Saturday. Williams scattered six hits and struck out five batters while holding the Riots scoreless in six innings of work.
The Eagles’ offense came from a trio of one run innings. Windham scored once in the second, fourth and seventh innings.
The Eagles were scheduled to put their 2-0 mark on the line against Sanford on Thursday.
Bonny Eagle drops two
The Bonny Eagle baseball team is 0-2 after loss to Cheverus on Tuesday and Kennebunk on Saturday.
The Scots scored five runs in the first inning against the Stags, but were unable to add any more. Cheverus rallied with three in the third and three more runs in the fourth to get the win.
Kevin McDonough and Nate Jewell had two hits each for the Scots.
“Casey McKague threw well, but Cheverus tagged him for six earned runs. They pounded the ball.,” said Bonny Eagle coach Michael Connolly.
At Kennebunk on Saturday, the Scots were unable to generate much offense. “Not getting outside during the pre-season has really affected us,” said Coach Connolly. “(Our) bats were pretty ineffective.”
Scott Lyon and Travis Dunn each had doubles to drive in runs and Casey McKague hit his first home run.
Ryan Walker started the game and Kyle Myers completed it with two scoreless innings of relief.
