Concerned Citizens of Gorham has launched a new Web site
to aid in its fight against the Mosher Road asphalt plant and quarry proposed by Shaw Brothers Construction Inc.
The group is concerned about what it sees as the potentially negative health, environmental and economic impacts associated with the plant, and is specifically opposing the project because of its location. The 116-acre site is surrounded by residences and is only about a mile from Narragansett School.
According to a news release, Concerned Citizens of Gorham feels that this is a critical issue affecting Gorham and is working to combat the application in multiple ways. The group
has been reviewing the application, talking to experts getting professional opinions submitted regarding noise, traffic and health, and working on Department of Environmental Protection related issues.
The organization said the goal of the Web site, www.ccogme.org, is to provide nformation about asphalt plants and aggregate quarries, the status of the application, what steps are being taken to prevent its approval and how to get involved.
The project is tentatively scheduled to go before the Gorham Planning Board on Monday, May 14, according to project engineer Walt Stinson of Sebago Technics in Westbrook.
