Lefebvre honored

The Portland Elks Club recently named Gorham Fire Chief Robert Lefebvre as Person of the Year.

Norm Justice, chairman of the Gorham Town Council, recognized the honor at the Gorham Town Council meeting last week. He said the honor was for Lefebvre’s contributions not only to Gorham, but also to the Greater Portland community. Justice called it “a well-deserved recognition.”

Benefit blanket day planned

Project Linus is sponsoring a benefit blanket day on Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Gorham Savings Bank Community Room on Route 202 (10 Wentworth Drive) in Gorham.

Bring your project to work on for Project Linus. There is plenty of room to sew, and big comfy chairs to knit, crochet or hand stitch.

There will be a few easy flannel kits available to assemble if you would like to try one, and there will be someone to help you. Please bring your sewing machine, scissors, rotary cutter, thread, extension cords, etc. Cutting boards, irons and ironing boards will be supplied.

Lunch will be served and there will be door prizes and an auction table with various prizes. Tickets for the auction will be $1 each or six for $5. The money raised from the auction table will benefit Project Linus, Southern Maine. There will also be totes of fabric available for you to look through and choose any fabrics you would like to take and return as a Project Linus Blanket at a later date. A supply of yarn may also be available. There will be an opportunity to “trade” your unwanted fabric for someone else’s unwanted fabric; it may be just the piece for which you have been looking (this table is for your personal use). Bring at least a yard of fabric, and take something from the table that you think you might like to use. Please join us for a fun day of sewing and needlecrafts, meet other Project Linus volunteers, and enjoy plenty of talk and laughter.

Please RSVP to Susan at 839-2275 or portland.me@projectlinus.org to reserve your seat
