GB&CE breakfast, election set
The Gorham Business & Civic Exchange’s annual breakfast meeting and election of board members is slated for Thursday, April 12, at 7:30 a.m. at Gorham Recreation Center, 75 South St. (in the new Gorham Municipal Town Offices).
The speaker, Paul Kapothanasis, owner of Prompto’s 10-Minute Oil Change businesses, will talk about how to “Grow Your Business Wisely.”
“This is a wonderful opportunity to learn tips for learning how to expand your business from an experienced entrepreneur,” said Dana Redmond, executive director of the exchange.
The Kapothanasis family opened their first store on July 3, 1984, in Portland. Since then, the company has emerged as Maine’s largest fast-lube operation with 21 locations in Maine and New Hampshire.
Paul Kapothanasis, married and father of triplets, has overseen the growth of Prompto over the past 22 years. With a degree in accounting from University of Southern Maine, he is actively involved in site selection, finance and administration of the company and all its locations. His favorite book is “What They Don’t Teach You at Harvard Business School.”
His family resides in Westbrook.
Redmond said a light breakfast will be served and all members and guests are invited. There is no cost to attend. Tours of the new facility will be available after the meeting.

Big Easy ‘Blue Lady’ hanging here
Susan Rappold of Gorham, a former New Orleans resident who escaped Hurricane Katrina, reported Monday a painting was among some of her long-list possessions that found her in Gorham on Friday.
“‘The Blue Lady’ is hanging on my wall,” she said.
Painted by Dwight Roberts in 1959, ‘The Blue Lady’ had been lost during the hurricane. Rappold said it was found in Thibodaux, La., by a friend, who shipped the painting by UPS to Gorham. Thibodaux is about a 60-minute drive from the Big Easy.
Rappold believed a socialite, who lived on St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans, La., was the model for “The Blue Lady.”
“I can’t believe it survived,” Rappold said.
