The Maine Games has announced that for the second consecutive year they are offering a figure skating competition in conjunction with the New Hampshire Figure Skating Festival.

The Saturday, April 14, event will be held at the Rinks at Exeter, in Exeter, N.H. Athletes from Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont are expected to compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals, as well as the opportunity to qualify for the State Games of America being held August 2-5, in Colorado Springs, CO.

As many as 1,000 figure skaters are expected to register for this year’s competition in Colorado, and many of those athletes may very well come from Northern New England, as the New Hampshire Figure Skating Festival is expecting more than 100 skaters from the tri-state region.

The event is sanctioned by the United States Figure Skating Association. Athletes associated with the ISI organization are also invited to compete.

The NHFSF’s commissioner, Debbie Dillon, of Salem, N.H., has been offering the event since 1999 with hundreds of athletes competing and qualifying for the State Games of America.

Last year’s Maine Games/New Balance Male Athlete of the Year, Dane Carter, of Falmouth, recently claimed a silver medal at the U.S. Junior Nationals in Cleveland.
