The Westbrook High Blue Blazes parent/athlete/coach informational night will take place Thursday, March 22, at 6 p.m. in the Westbrook High School auditorium.
In an effort to better inform our parents and student-athletes, we will be holding an athletic informational night before the start of the 2007 spring season. All athletes will be required to attend before they start pre-season practices in their spring sports the following week. All parents are encouraged to attend in order to meet the new Athletic/Activities Director Todd Sampson and their child’s spring coach.
This event is mandatory for all athletes and varsity coaches. It is recommended for all parents and sub-varsity coaches.
Dr. Publicker, from Mercy hospital, will speak to athletes, coaches and parents on the topic of adolescent substance abuse – its effects physically and emotionally upon the body and the mind. The talk will also address any new research in the field, with special attention to the issue on the effects of substance usage on athletic performance. This should take about 45 minutes.
The parents and athletes will then break out to meet with the varsity coaches. The varsity coach will be prepared to share the following information with athletes and parents; practice and game schedules, mandatory forms, deadlines, individual and team goals, objectives, philosophies, sport specific rules, and the chain of command for any and all complaints!
