Bureau of Labor SHAPE award

The Bureau of Labor has presented the Westbrook Fire Rescue Department with a plaque recognizing excellence in compliance with labor standards.

Last August, in an effort to ensure compliance with Maine Bureau of Labor standards, the department requested a voluntary consultation inspection from the Maine Bureau of Labor.

Due to its excellence in labor compliance standards as a result of the consultation, the inspector recommended that the department apply for the Maine Bureau of Labor’s Safety & Health Award for Public Employers (SHAPE) program.

The SHAPE Program was instituted by the bureau a year ago to recognize public organizations that excel in Bureau of Labor standards compliance. Westbrook is the second fire service organization in the state to receive such recognition at this date.

Flag of Heroes framed

At this past year’s Sept. 11 Remembrance, the Public Safety workers of Westbrook were presented with the Flag of Heroes by Maine Flag & Banner of Windham. The Flag of Heroes was created to honor the victims of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. This flag contains the names of the emergency services personnel who gave their lives.

Through the generosity of Westbrook Picture Frame, 869 Main St., the flag has been framed and is proudly displayed in the second floor lobby of the Public Safety Building.
