Bonny Eagle senior receives Principal’s Award
Katherine Thomas, a Bonny Eagle High School senior, has received the 2007 Principal’s Leadership Award.
The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship. Thomas is the daughter of Allen and Gloria Thomas of Buxton.
High school Principal Robert Strong said, “Katie is an outstanding scholar and citizen. She is carrying a GPA(Grade Point Average) of 4.37 while engaging in a variety of school and community activities. She has excelled in concert band, wind ensemble, pep band and jazz band, performing at district and all state music festivals. She is a member of the Drama Club, Recycle Club, Natural Helpers (peer support group), Student Council, National Honor Society, and has served as a class officer. Katie is a three sport participant, participating in cross country, tennis, and track while also providing numerous community service hours for local youth agencies. Katie is extremely deserving of this recognition.”
Katherine Thomas and Strong and other award winners and their principals will attend an Honors Luncheon at the Bangor Civic Center on Saturday, April 7..
The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 140 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association that represents Maine’s school administrators.
Women’s health screening set
Leavitt’s Mill Health Center and Southern Maine Medical Center are hosting a special Women’s Health Screening Day, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Thursday, March 22.
The clinical exams and Pap tests will be performed by a nurse practitioner at Leavitt’s Mill Health Center, 1013 Narragansett Trail.
Mammograms will be provided directly after the exam at SMMC’s Diagnostic and Therapy Center in Saco. To help cover the cost of travel, the women who participate will receive a $10 gift card for gas.
Screening tests and medical exams will be provided at no cost to women who are between the ages of 40 and 64; have no insurance, or have insurance with a high deductible or which does not cover the cost of the tests; and meet certain income guidelines
Women who have MaineCare, or Medicare Parts A and B are not eligible.

Screening services are funded by the Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program, a collaborative effort of the DHHS, Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and the CDC; and the American Cancer Society.
Kindergarten registration
Bonny Eagle kindergarten registration dates have been announced.
Registration in Buxton is scheduled for 9 a.m. -2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, in Buxton town hall; Hollis, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Thursday, April 5, Hollis town hall; Standish, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Tuesday, April 10, Edna Libby School; and Limington, 9-11 a.m., Thursday, April 12, H.B. Emery School.
Parents, who need to have proof of residency, should take their child along with birth certificate, immunization record (including proof of chicken pox), and the child’s Social Security number.
