Cost of certified copies: The first copy of any certificate is $7. Each additional copy of the same certificate purchased at the same time is $3.

A certified copy of your birth certificate is needed for a Social Security application, a passport application, driver training, school enrollment and some school sports programs. The certificate received at the hospital at birth is not a certified one, as it has not been registered with the state.

A resident of Westbrook must obtain a marriage license at the City Clerk’s office. If marrying someone from another town, you must obtain a second license from that town. If you come from out-of-state and are planning to be married in Maine, you must obtain a license from the town in which you are going to be married. It is a two-step process. First, marriage intentions are filed. A fee of $10 for each party living in Westbrook is charged at this time. If both live in Westbrook, $20 is charged. Your name, address, date of birth, father’s name, mother’s maiden name and parents’ place of birth are required along with your signature. This information is transferred from the intentions to the license form by our office. You may pick up the license 3 business days after filing your intentions. This license must be signed in front of the City Clerk by both bride and groom and is good for 90 days.
