The Lake Region girls basketball team continues to sit atop the Western Maine Class B Heal Point standings after winning two games last week. The Lakers downed Wells by a 56-36 score back on Tuesday, Jan. 30, and they won at Gray-New Gloucester by a 53-35 score on Thursday, Feb. 1.

The Lakers raced ahead of the Patriots by a 13-4 margin at the start of the game and they held a 29-12 advantage at the half as they coasted to victory.

Z.Z. Leighton was high scorer for the Lakers with 12.

The Lakers entered this week with two games to close out the regular season. They hosted Poland on Tuesday evening and they close out the pre-tournament campaign with on Friday with a match-up against a very good Fryeburg Academy squad.

One game left for Windham

The Windham High girls basketball team had a modest two-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday night. The Gorham girls came to town and they doubled up on the Eagles, handing the hosts a 64-32 loss.

Ally Noble led the way for the Eagles scoring a team-high 11 points.

Windham had scored two nice back-to-back wins against Bonny Eagle (57-55) on Friday, Feb. 2, and against Kennebunk (60-23) back on Tuesday, Jan. 30.
