The Cape Elizabeth hockey team used a five-goal third period to defeat Yarmouth, 6-5, last week.

Yarmouth took a 3-0 lead in the first period with two goals from Drew Hughes and one from Josh Colello.

In the second period, Yarmouth added to their lead with two goals from Jon Bubier. The Capers netted one goal when Colby Pearson converted on a pass from Andrew Gibson.

The third period was all Cape Elizabeth as they scored five unanswered goals. Pearson opened the scoring and his teammates followed suit. Tanner Tremblay completed the comeback with a power play goal at 11:28 of the third. His goal proved to be the game-winner as the Capers held on over the final minutes to get the win.

The Capers record now stands at 6-10. They were scheduled to take on Greely on Thursday.

South Portland 10 Massabesic 1

The first time the South Portkand hockey team took on Massabesic/OOB they needed two third period goals to pick up the win. This time there would be no tense moments for the Red Riots as they dominated the Seastangs for a 10-1 win.

Nick Fornwalt had five goals for the Riots and Nick Griffin added two more goals and two assists.

The Riots opened the scoring 35 seconds into the game when Fornwalt converted off a pass from Griffin. At 2:57 of the first, Fornwalt notched his second goal during a South Portland power play.

Kyle Lambertson cut the deficit in half when he scored for the Seastangs at 5:18. But Fornwalt finished off his hat trick less than two minutes later.

Griffin scored his two goals in the second period to give South Portland a 5-1 lead.

The third period saw an offensive explosion from the Riots as they scored five more goals including two more from Fornwalt. The other three third period goals came from Jim Doria, Aidon Boyce and Dan Maietta.

South Portland improved to 3-12 with the win. They were scheduled to face Gray-New Gloucester/Poland on Thursday.
