MAP honors Sanphy
Sgt. Mike Sanphy of Westbrook police was named as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Maine Association of Police on Jan 20 at the association’s annual awards banquet at the Italian Heritage Center in Portland.
Sanphy has served with the Westbrook Police Department for 38 years. His friend Jim Fahey said Sanphy also served 20 years as a call firefighter, retiring as captain. In addition, Fahey said Sanphy spent 20 years with Emergency Management Agency of Westbrook, retiring as director.
Levecque, Philbrook engagement
Peter and Terry Levecque of Westbrook announced the engagement of their daughter, Kristen, to Jason Philbrook.
Philbrook is the son of Sumner and Glenys Philbrook, also of Westbrook.
Kristen and Jason are both graduates of Westbrook High School. She is employed by Little Hands Day Care and Learning Center and he is employed by Bill Dodge Auto Group.
No wedding date has been set.
Post to meet, eat
The Stephen W. Manchester Post 62 of the American Legionwill meet for a dinner at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at post headquarters, 17 Dunn St.
A business meeting will follow the meal.
Historians meet
The Westbrook Historical Society will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, in its headquarters at 17B Dunn St.
Christi Mitchell of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission will speak about the National Register of Historic Landmarks.
Benefit reminder
A spaghetti supper will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday at St. Hyacinth’s Catholic Church (St. Anthony Parish) on Brown Street. The supper will benefit the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in South America.
Tickets are $6, $4.
Takach joins literacy board
Jessica Takach has joined the board of directors at Literacy Volunteers of Greater Saco-Biddeford, the agency’s newsletter reported.
Takach, who lives in Westbrook, is the publications coordinator for “Maine in Print,” a quarterly publication of Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance. She also works part time as a legal assistant in Portland.
Transportation honors Jameson
Lisa Jameson has been named as February employee of the by the transportation department for Westbrook schools.
Penny Esposito, director of the department, said Jameson drives bus No. 10 for the high school, Congin and Prides Corner schools, as well as the late bus back to Raymond. Esposito said Jameson was very instrumental in the “Bottles for Bushey” drive to benefit another bus driver.
“She is well liked by her students and their parents as well as her co workers. She brings a happy smile to work each day and does her best encourage team work amongst her peers,” Esposito said. “She is relatively new to Westbrook and we certainly are happy with her.”
Little dribblers to perform
Westbrook’s “Bouncing Blazes” will make their debut performance at the Westbrook girls varsity basketball game, 7 p.m., Friday, at Westbrook High School. The “Bouncing Blazes” are possible future members of Westbrook teams. Girls ages 4-10 learn basic basketball skills and have fun, under the tutelage of Peter Wescott and Ed Symbol.
